Sycamore Soccer Adds Illinois State Transfer Ashlee Bakaitis
Indiana State women's soccer has added Illinois State transfer Ashlee Bakaitis to its roster ahead of the 2022 fall season.
"We are excited to add a quality person and player like Ashlee to our team. Ashlee brings an invaluable experience having played in our league the previous two seasons. She will provide an immediate impact to our roster this fall" said head coach Julie Hanley. "I'm thrilled that she has chosen to continue the Sycamore legacy and I want to officially welcome the Bakaitis family into the Sycamore soccer family."
Bakaitis is a 5-7 defender from Chesterton, Indiana who started and played in 29 games at Illinois State over the past two seasons. During the fall 2021 season, she logged 1,404 total minutes on the field which was third highest on the team.
In the spring 2021 season, Bakaitis was named to the MVC All-Freshman Team while logging 1051 minutes on the pitch to average 87.5 minutes played per game. She tallied two assists to finish with two points on the season while recorded took six shots, placing one on frame. She helped the Redbird defense post four shutouts on the year, all occurring in Valley play. Bakaitis played in all 103 minutes of ISU's 2-1 2OT loss in the MVC semifinals to Loyola Chicago.
The sophomore defender is no stranger to Memorial Stadium as she played all 110 minutes against the Sycamores in a 1-1 tie last fall on October 22 in Terre Haute.
Bakaitis played at Chesterton High School where she was a third-team All-State honoree her senior year. She finished her high school career with 31 goals and 21 assists.
Her father Jeff Bakaitis was a member of the Indiana State track & field team from 1993-1997.
Bakaitis joins incoming freshmen Corynn DeGroote, Ella Gorrie, Kaitlin Koger, Madeline Lotspeich, Leah McDonald, Ella Roesch, Molly Smith and Adelaide Wolfe as additions for the 2022 fall season.
