Sycamores Fall on Road to Valpo to Finish Season
Indiana State women's soccer dropped their season finale on Sunday afternoon as the Sycamores fell 4-1 to Valparaiso at Brown Field.
Both teams had great looks to score throughout the first 35 minutes but were kept off the board until Valparaiso's Molly O'Rear found the back of the net in the 36th minute to break the 0-0 tie and give the Beacons the lead going into the locker room.
Indiana State and Valparaiso had three shots on goal in the first half as the Beacons outshot the Sycamores 14-5 in total. CeCe Wahlberg fired a shot just after entering as a substitution which gave her 89 shots on goal for her career which is tied for most all-time in ISU history.
The Beacons got off to a fast start in the second half as Addy Joiner extended the Valpo lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 47th minute. She was assisted by Kiley Dugan.
Just over 10 minutes later, Valparaiso tacked on another goal as Andrea Garcia scored on a feed from Lindsey Dusatko to put the Beacons up 3-0.
After a few shots on goal from the Sycamores by Carlie Jensen and Mackenzie Kent, Valpo earned a corner where Chase Ray fired a shot in the box but was blocked by the ISU defense. The deflection bounced to Andrea Garcia who scored her second goal of the afternoon to put the Beacons up 4-0 after 70 minutes of action.
Chloe Tesny drew a foul in the final minute of a match to set up a Sycamore penalty kick which was taken by Anna Holcombe who scored to make it 4-1 and end the shutout bid by the Beacons. It was Holcombe's first goal of the year.
The Sycamores attempted six shots in the second half to finish with 11 while Valpo took 10 for a total of 24 for the match.
Tara Hoffman finished with five saves with Beacons goalie Nikki Coryell making five stops as well on the afternoon.
Valparaiso earns the MVC regular season title with the victory and the Beacons will be the #1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Indiana State's season ends with the loss as the Sycamores finished ninth in the final conference standings.
Indiana State finishes their season with a 2-6-2 conference record and a 2-11-3 record overall.
