Hobbs ninth, Sycamores sixth through first day of Braun Intercollegiate
Kristen Hobbs sits in in the top 10 while Indiana State is sixth overall in the team standings as the Sycamores closed out the first day of the Braun Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon.
Hobbs (+6) sits tied for ninth overall in the field after a strong opening round at the Oak Meadow Country Club. The junior sits six strokes back of Austin Peay State's Taylor Dedmen (Even) through the first 18 holes.
Indiana State (+39) sits in the middle of the pack through the first day at the Par-72 course. The Sycamores turned in eight birdies over the day paced by Molly Lee's trio of holes under par, while Briana LeMaire added two birdies in the round.
Austin Peay State (+17) is the tournament leader, while Illinois Chicago (+21), Bellarmine (+24), and Evansville (+25) all sit within striking distance heading into Tuesday's final round.
Hobbs leads the way for ISU sitting tied for ninth in the field following her opening round 78. The Anderson, Ind. native posted her lone birdie of the day on the first hole.
Lee (+7) sits one stroke back of her teammate in a tie for 17th. Lee's trio of birdies came on the 11th, 14th, and sixth holes to leave her within striking distance of the leaders.
Yang Tai (+12) is tied for 41st in the field following her opening round 84. The Beijing, China native birdied the ninth hole to highlight her opening round.
Chelsea Morrow (+14) is tied for 49th in the field after carding an 86 in the first round. The junior birdied the 13th hole on the day.
Briana LeMaire (+15) was the final Sycamore in the lineup for head coach Greg Towne with the freshman turning in an opening round 87. LeMaire birdied the 15th and 17th holes on her way to finishing tied for 51st through 18 holes.
Three Sycamores took on the field as individuals led by freshman Eliza Baker's (+10) first-round 82. Iyoun Chew (+13) sits tied for 46th overall following her first round 85, while Grace Welty (+17) is tied for 58th overall on the day.
