Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Track and Field Season Preview: Jumps and Pole Vault

With one event already in the books for the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Track and Field teams and the rest of the season getting ready to start, the Pomeroys will look to continue to build off their strong performances from last season.

2021-2022 Recap

The Pomeroys had several finals finishes in both indoor and outdoor conference championships, highlighted by Kaileigh Pruitt finishing second (1.6m/5' 3") in indoor high jump, Krislynn Bailey finishing second (3.17m/10' 4.75") in indoor pole vault and third (3.02m/9' 10.92") in outdoor pole vault. Luke Frey was the top performer on the men's side with a fourth place finish (6.47m/21' 2.75") in outdoor long jump and sixth place finish (6.47m/21' 2.75") for indoor long jump.

Men's Jump and Pole Vault

The men's side will be without Trenton Tuberosa, fourth place finisher for indoor pole vault at the conference championships, and Bryce Brock, tied for seventh for indoor high jump at the conference championships, this upcoming season but the Pomeroys have several key returners this year. Luke Frey returns after earning many top 10 finishes for the Pomeroys last season in both conference championships.

Ahmad Benford is another key returner for the Pomeroys after an eighth place finish (6.17m/20' 2.88") in outdoor long jump and just missing the cut for the finals of the indoor long jump.

The Pomeroys have two new athletes to watch competing for this group this season in Andrew Sedletzeck and Abbott Church, both will compete in high jump this season.

Women's Jump and Pole Vault

The women's team have all their top performers from last season returning to the team as well as a couple key newcomers this season. Kaileigh Pruitt returns after a second place finish in indoor high jump. Pruitt finished tied for fifth (1.5m/4' 11.04") with Lara Skaggs in the outdoor high jump.

Skaggs finished fifth for both indoor (2.27m/7' 5.25") and outdoor (2.12m/6' 11.52") pole vault. Skaggs finished seventh for both indoor (4.82m/15' 9.75") and outdoor (4.73m/15' 6.24") long jumps.

Krislynn Bailey returns after finishing second in indoor and third in outdoor pole vault. Kaylynn Barton returns after finishing sixth (10m/32' 9.72") in outdoor triple jump and eighth (1.5m/4' 11.04") in outdoor high jump.

The group will have two key newcomers this year in Evelyn Morales and Talia Smalls. Morales will compete in high jump and Smalls will compete in long jump.

2022-2023 Season Highlights

The Pomeroys do not have any events that they will host this season, but the Pomeroys will go across town to Rose-Hulman for four events during the season. Indoor will take place on Jan. 20 and Jan. 27 as part of the Friday Night Spikes Series Rose-Hulman hosts. Outdoor will travel to Rose-Hulman on March 18 to compete in the Rose-Hulman Early Bird Invitational and April 21 to compete in the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet. The RSC Indoor Championships will take place in Logan, Ohio on Feb 18 and the NAIA Indoor Championships will take place in Brookings, S.D. on March 2-4. The RSC Outdoor Championships will take place on April 28 and 29 in Rio Grande, Ohio and the NAIA Outdoor Championships will take place on May 24-26 in Marion, Ind.
