McKendree selected as Brenda Howell Award recipient

Indiana State senior guard Anna McKendree was selected as the school's annual Brenda Howell Award winner, as announced by head coach Chad Killinger.

"Brenda Howell was a dedicated supporter of our women's basketball program for many years, and this award helps to recognize that commitment by acknowledging a student-athlete that displays the characteristics that Brenda personified," Killinger said.

The Brenda Howell Spirit Award is awarded annually to an Indiana State women's basketball student-athlete who exhibits the spirit, determination and positive attitude that Brenda Howell did. Howell was a longtime Sycamore women's basketball supporter who passed away in 2005.

McKendree, a 5-7 guard from Flowery Branch, Georgia, has become a key part of the Sycamore rotation this season, seeing her numbers jump in the process. She has started each of Indiana State's 23 games this season, averaging 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game while playing a team-high 32.8 minutes per game. McKendree leads the team in 3-point percentage, knocking down 36 percent of her attempts from distance, and is top-three on the team in points (third), rebounds (third), assists (first) and steals (first). In her two seasons at Indiana State, McKendree has career averages of 7.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game in 50 games, including 24 starts.

"It's been great to see Anna's growth since first getting the opportunity to coach her at Nicholls State," Killinger said. "She is a passionate player and brings a ton of energy and competitive fire to our program. There's no denying her toughness or basketball IQ. I'm happy to see her earn this recognition and be acknowledged for her contributions to Indiana State women's basketball."

McKendree will be honored with the award in a pregame presentation prior to tipoff of Friday's game against Valparaiso.
