Walt Botich makes $125,000 contribution to ISU men’s basketball
Indiana State Athletics has announced that Sycamore alum Walt Botich and his family have made a $125,000 contribution to the ISU men's basketball team as announced on Monday morning.
"Having supported the ISU basketball program over the years, it's with enthusiasm I take this step in supporting a new beginning for men's basketball especially with Coach Schertz and his staff leading this effort," Botich said. "I'm proud to be behind the team in their pursuit of getting ISU Basketball back into the limelight."
Botich, a 1971 alumnus from ISU, and his wife Kristy have been steadfast supporters of Sycamore athletics for more than 35 years.
"Indiana State University is so very grateful to Walt and Kristy Botich for this wonderful gift," ISU President Dr. Deborah Curtis said. "Men's basketball at ISU will be able to use this donation to enhance the fine program that Coach Schertz and his team are building. Sycamore alumni and fans are the very best."
The relationship built between the Botich family and the Indiana State basketball program played a key role in the contribution.
"Walt Botich continues to be one of our biggest fans and supporters of Indiana State men's basketball," Clinkscales said. "We're thankful for the relationship we have built with him and Kristy. This gift will greatly enhance the student-athlete experience at ISU as we continue to invest in a championship program."
Head Men's Basketball Coach Josh Schertz echoed the sentiment as he recognized the Botich family's generosity with the gift and their investment in the program.
"I am so thankful for the support and belief from Walt and Kristy in the program we are building at Indiana State," Schertz said. "Their generosity will allow us to continue to work to provide an exceptional student-athlete experience for our players. Building a sustainable championship level program is a true team effort and we are beyond fortunate to have Walt and Kristy as teammates!"
Botich graduated from Indiana State from the Bailey College of Engineering and Technology with a degree in mechanical technology. He has spent a majority of his working career at AM General in quality assurance in various positions throughout the organization. Over his last 16 years he served as the Vice President of Corporate Quality Assurance and retired from AM General after 32 years with the company.
