SCOB hosts Diversity in Business Symposium
David Pack, President of Trinity Financial Consulting and a 1989 accounting graduate of the Scott College of Business at Indiana State University shared inspiring words with students, faculty, and staff, and partners, during the Diversity in Business Symposium on Feb. 20.
He began his keynote speech with gratitude to everyone important in his life. Then, he continued, "I want to thank you for your participation to come to this event. I want to thank you for attending Indiana State University, one of the best universities on this side of the Mississippi."
Pack shared his "unfinished story" - from serving in the Army National Guard and attending ISU to his corporate career and the start of his company. He reminded the audience of the "five essential life principles" such as problem-solving and creativity, discipline, the process of growth, and the spirit of excellence. It is important to align passion and energy with talents and gifts, he said.
"You have to be willing to put in the spirit of excellence. ‘A' players get paid differently."
Pack is also a partner and real estate multifamily developer in the Indiana and Ohio markets. He was a licensed life insurance agent who helped provide financial education to family and friends to leave financial resources and a legacy for their families. Pack continues to be an investor and actively grows a diverse investment portfolio. He mentors young men and women within the Indianapolis community and is a Big Brother in the Big Brother Big Sister program.
"The symposium is a unique opportunity to connect with and learn from people with diverse backgrounds and life experiences," Audra Doedtman, a senior majoring in Finance, also served among the student speakers. "I look forward to seeing the Diversity in Business Symposium continue to grow in the coming years."
President Deborah Curtis, Ph.D., and Provost Christopher Olsen, Ph.D., delivered the welcome and closing remarks. Alumna Courtney Montfort of Gibson Insurance, as well as Anthony Philips II, Deputy Chief and Executive Director of External Equity, State of Indiana, and Courtney Richey of the West Central Indiana Small Business Development Center, spoke at the event.
The Scott College of Business hosted the Diversity in Business Symposium from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Sycamore Banquet Center. The event highlighted successful businesses supported by the West Central Indiana Small Business Development Center ION Program; companies supporting DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) and scholarships for students interested in studying business.
