This past Sunday, August 7, the City of Sullivan held the fireman’s memorial service in honor of fallen firefighter Ray Jordan at the First Responder Memorial on the Sullivan square.

In 1947, Fireman Ray Jordan, alongside his team, responded to a fire in progress at the Fritz Stein Bakery, Dailey Grocery and an apartment building. While batting the fire, Jordan found himself trapped on the roof where he inhaled a lot of smoke. After he made it back to the ground, Chief Arnold Ford sent him back to the station.

After arriving back at the station, Jordan collapsed from the excessive smoke he inhaled.

On August 3, 1947, Ray Jordan took his final breath after succumbing to the injuries he sustained battling the fire.
